When I thought that after all that pedophilia scandals (that lots of priests and even the pope tried to hide for years) I thought my disregard for Catholic Church couldn't get so low but that's when it get even lower: catholic church is envolved in the porn industry...at least one filial, a german filial of the catholic church. Now the editor of porn industry is for sale to avoid the scandal and protect the german pope Ratzinger.
I'm in shock right now but this only shows how rotten and hypocritical catholic church is...fact that I discovered when I was 12 years old and proclaimed myself agnostic and said that I wanted to get out of catholicism..decision that was not approved by my family and only after several rebellions I could get out of that place and institution which I'm ashamed of have belonged.
"One of Germany's largest publishing companies, Weltbild, has over 2,500 erotic novels in its online catalogue. Its owned 100 percent by the German Catholic Church.
Worldcrunch, summarizing an article by German newspaper Die Welt, says that for over 10 years Catholics have complained about the company, which has been owned by the church for over 30 years.
Die Welt reports that the situation came to light after a report this month mentioned the erotica distributed by Weltbild.
Weltbild has an annual turnover of €1.7 billion ($2.4 billion) and has a 20 percent market share when it comes to selling books. That makes it the second largest online retailer of books behind Amazon.
The church also owns a 50 percent stake in publishing company Droemer Knaur, which also produces pornographic book
Now, amid the scandal, the German Catholic church has withdrawn its investment in the publishing company. It is looking for a buyer as soon as possible.
The Local reports that Weltbild initially removed some 2,500 erotic titles from its online catalogue, but the church has now decided to distance itself from the publisher completely.
However, the decision could have come sooner for some Catholics. Last month German publication Die Welt reported that some worshipers had been complaining about the church's association with the pornographic publications for over 10 years only to be ignored by bishops."
